Abel
Name means: Breath
Parents: Adam and Eve
Wife: None recorded
Children: None recorded
Found in: Genesis 4:1-12, Matthew 23:35, Hebrews 11:4 and 12:24
Abel was the second recorded son of Adam and Eve. His name appears
only 12 times in the Bible, but as Hebrews relates, "because of his
faith he still speaks, even though he is dead" (Hebrews 11:4). (The
name 'Abel' is not to be confused with the place name 'Abel' as in 1
Samuel 6:18 - the two words are totally different in Hebrew.) Abel is
known for three things - 1) he was a shepherd, 2) he offered the
choisest of his flock for his sacrifices to God, 3) he was murdered by
his brother Cain, who was jealous of the favor God showed Abel.
Hebrews 11:4 - By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.
