Enoch

Name means: Dedicated
Parents: Jared and unnamed wife
Wife: Not named
Children: Methuselah, others

Found in: Genesis 5:18-24; 1 Chronicles 1:3; Luke 3:37; Hebrews 11:5; Jude (1:)14-15

Other occurrences of the name include the eldest son of Cain, the city Cain built (named after his son), a son of Midian, and the eldest son of Reuben, thought these are sometimes spelled differently in English.
Enoch is exceptional in the genealogy of Genesis 5. While others lived well beyond 700 years, Enoch's story ends at the age of 365. It is said he "walked with God" and was no more. The Hebrew Bible says no more about him beyond the genealogies, but non-biblical stories spoke much of him, and the Christian New Testament speaks of him preaching to the people of his time, of his distress at the wickedness of his time, and of his "by-passing death" (see verse below). He remains, for Jews and Christians, an example of whole-hearted devotion to God and the separated life of faith.

Hebrews 11:5 - By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
