Cain
Name means: Possession
Parents: Adam and Eve
Wife: Not named
Children: Enoch
Found in: Genesis 4
First son of Adam and Eve, he became jealous when God approved of his
younger brother Abel and his sacrifice, but did not accept Cain or his
sacrifice. Some say it was because Abel's sacrifice was a blood
sacrifice, but future regulations in the Law describe grain offerings.
More likely, Abel was approved because his offering was from the best
of his flock, while Cain simply gave "some" of his harvest. As a
result of his jealousy, in spite of a warning from God that "sin was
crouching at the door", Cain ended up killing Abel. As a result, he
was banished. Genesis records seven generations from Cain, involving
many firsts - first city, first hunter, first musician, first bronze
tools and first recorded polygamist.
Genesis 4:7 - "If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him."
